GE has been building appliances in American plants for long enough that its parts are among the easiest to source anywhere. That matters more than it sounds. A GE fault is rarely exotic, and the deciding question is usually whether the failed part is a simple swap or a control board that changes the arithmetic entirely.
What GE builds
GE covers the whole kitchen and laundry range, from the plainest white top-freezer refrigerator to the Profile and Café lines. The volume products here are top-load washers, electric dryers, front-control dishwashers and gas ranges. Two GE design choices show up repeatedly: the glow-bar igniter used in nearly every gas oven, which weakens gradually instead of failing outright, and dishwasher electronics that are more fragile than the mechanical parts they control.

Dishwasher control panel unresponsive
Buttons that do nothing, or a machine that starts a cycle on its own, is usually the user interface board behind the panel rather than the main control underneath. Moisture tracking along the ribbon connector is a frequent cause, so the door vent seal is worth checking at the same time.
Top-load washer will not spin
The shifter assembly moves the drive between agitate and spin and reports its position back to the control. When it fails the machine often completes the wash and stops with a full tub. The water level pressure sensor and its hose look similar from outside and are cheaper to rule out first.
Gas oven takes a long time to light
Current, not glow, is what opens the gas valve. An ageing glow-bar igniter still lights up orange while pulling less than the valve needs, so the oven lights late or not at all while looking perfectly healthy. This one is measured, not judged by eye.
Refrigerator warming with a frosted back panel
A defrost fault: the heater, the thermostat or the control that runs them. Ice builds across the evaporator until air can no longer move through it, so the freezer holds for a while and the fresh food side warms first. Clearing the frost proves the diagnosis and fixes nothing.
Dryer squealing on every rotation
Front glides, the idler pulley and the rear drum bearing. GE dryers use a felt seal at the back that wears through and lets the drum touch metal, which sounds alarming and is inexpensive. Left alone it wears the drum edge and turns a small job into a large one.
Ice maker producing nothing
Check the fill valve and the water pressure at the valve before the module. A partly blocked inlet screen gives small or hollow cubes; no water at all, with the freezer holding temperature, points more often at the thermostat or the module itself.
