Refrigerator Repair in Mira Mesa, San Diego

If your refrigerator has gone wrong in Mira Mesa, the useful thing to describe is not what broke — it is what the machine does at the moment it fails.

Mira Mesa, and where the machine usually sits

Uniform tract housing turns a single fault into a neighbourhood pattern. When one builder-grade dishwasher of a given vintage starts leaking at the door seal, we tend to see four more within a few weeks, all on the same original install. The same goes for laundry hookups: the standpipes were cut to one height across a phase, and where that height is marginal the washer siphons and refills on its own. Knowing the pattern shortens the diagnosis, but it does not replace it, so we still test the machine in front of us. It also means parts are easy to stock, and a first-visit fix is more likely here than in older parts of the city.

When repairing it is the wrong call

Not every refrigerator should be repaired. Where the part costs a large share of what the machine is worth, or where a second major component is clearly on its way, we will say so — in Mira Mesa as anywhere. A repair that fails again in four months is worse than no repair.

Frost had built right across the back wall inside. The defrost heater tested open, so nothing was ever clearing. He fitted a new heater and thermostat, and melted the coil out before closing it back up.

Fan noise rose and fell all evening and the fridge went warm. Ice had built up around the evaporator fan blade so it was striking the shroud. He melted it out and sorted the door seal letting warm air in.

Garage refrigerator ran constantly and never quite reached temperature. Its condenser coils were packed with dust and dog hair. He cleaned them out, checked the fan, and now it cycles off the way it should.

The compressor ran without a break and the fridge still was not cold enough. Its start relay had failed and the compressor was straining. He replaced the relay and overload, then checked the current draw.

The fresh food side warmed up while the freezer stayed cold. Its evaporator fan motor had seized. He replaced the motor and cleared the drain hole in the rear panel, which had iced over as well.

Water kept collecting under the crisper drawers. The drain tube was blocked with sludge. He cleared it and fitted the little wick clip that stops it happening again. It took two trips, as the first slot fell through.

Questions

Do you come out to Mira Mesa?

Yes, Mira Mesa included. The visit costs a flat $89 and covers working out what is actually wrong; approve the repair and you are not charged for it separately.

My refrigerator is in a closet — is that a problem?

Not at all, but tell us when you ring. A stacked or built-in pair has to come out before anything can be measured, and knowing beforehand means the right amount of time is set aside instead of a second trip.

Do you work on built-in Sub-Zero refrigerators?

No, and that is deliberate. Built-in columns and under-counter units need different parts, different sealed-system work and a different way in, and there are San Diego shops that do nothing else. We look after freestanding kitchen and garage machines, which is a different job in everything but name.
